T2 LOOKS BACK AT A YEAR WHEN CALCUTTA LIVED IT UP WITH FUN, FASHION & FOOD! Published 29.12.10, 12:00 AM

t2 birthday bash
With Arabian Nights as the theme, t2 turned three in style. Shisha Reincarnated hosted a night to remember on 2/2. It was a star-studded affair with everyone dropping by to say Happy Birthday and then staying on for hours. Moon Moon Sen with Raima and Riya, Rituparno Ghosh, Debasree Roy, Swastika Mukherjee, Jisshu and Nilanjanaa Sengupta, Karan Paul, Harsh and Madhu Neotia…. We could go on and on, but we don’t like to show off!

Food Guide launch
The Telegraph Food Guide, presented by Seagram’s Blenders Pride, was launched by Rituparna Sengupta and Swastika Mukherjee at CC&FC in April. Victor Banerjee, Beth A. Payne, Sanjiv Goenka, Harsh Neotia, Sabyasachi Mukherjee, Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury, Nondon Bagchi and many other friends of t2 were there. An evening of food and fun was crowned by a special gig by Anjan Dutt and Friends of Fusion.

Art In Life at CIMA
Art came home to stay as CIMA hosted its annual exhibition. Fun jewellery, stunning saris and stoles, artefacts both serious and quirky — CIMA had it all. And with Anamika Khanna’s special artsy capsule collection flying off the racks in a matter of minutes, here’s to more
art in life!

Stylefile
The Old Bungalow at 7/6 Burdwan Road was the premier lifestyle destination on the winter calendar where Stylefile 2010, in association with t2, rocked on. The annual extravaganza organised by Preeti Goenka and Sumedha Saraogi lived up to its reputation of the have-to-be-seen-at and have-to-shop-at stop.

Sabyasachi’s show & store debut
Sabyasachi Mukherjee delivered a double delight this year. First, the city gaped at his debut solo showing at Taj Bengal, in association with t2. It was special with Shubha Mudgal singing live, the front row dotted by Vidya Balan and Rani Mukerji, and Sabya hitting a creative high. The flagship store, off Vivekananda Park, was something else. We call it the wonderland.

25 years of Kookie Jar
What started off as a backyard baking hobby in December 1985, completed 25 super successful years in 2010. Three cheers to Lovey and her KJ team. Here’s to many more sinfully chocolatey years!

Forum Courtyard
Shopping in the city has not been the same since Forum Courtyard opened doors in August. Now we don’t have to wait to travel to Mumbai to stock up on our shoes. We don’t have to go to Delhi to pick up our Promod and Mango basics. And we certainly don’t need to travel to Jaipur to splurge on Amrapali. Courtyard, Calcutta loves you.

Swissotel
Swissotel added a touch of cool to Rajarhat. A hotel in a mall (City Centre 2), Swissotel Calcutta Neotia Vista is a 147-room business hotel with a Swiss Café, a nightclub called Maaya and a smooth sky lounge Splash with an infinity pool by its side. From up here, the Calcutta skyline looks serene and sensuous.

Gourmet Getaway
Ganga Kutir hosted two beautiful episodes of Gourmet Getaway in association with t2. If Karen Anand, Shaun Kenworthy and Irfan Ahmed taught us a thing or three in the first edition, it was time to sit back and soak it all in as Sabyasachi Mukherjee turned stylist for the second one. In the company of famous foodies, it was one gorgeous gorge-away!

Manish Malhotra
He came, he saw, he conquered. Twice! First, for a t2 trip and then for The Telegraph Weddings show. The first time around, hosted by t2, the Bollywood design badshah brunched, lunched and partied over two days. In between, he chaired a t2 edit meeting and a student talk show. The next time, he let his clothes do the talking as they swayed down the ramp at the KKN Group of Companies presents Marriage N Vogue at The Telegraph Weddings in ITC The Sonar.

Polo
The city ushered in winter with the king of games. Calcutta Polo Season 2010 held at the Pat Williamson Polo Grounds by the Fort William Riding and Polo Club, in association with The Telegraph, saw some of the country’s best players trot into town. While the days were marked by fast-paced action, nail-biting matches and loud cheering from the gallery, the evenings belonged to music, dance and merriment.

IPL Parties
When King Khan and his party people decided to descend on Calcutta for IPL, the city came to a standstill. Or… not quite! Matches at Eden Garden by day and fashion shows, after-parties and after-after-parties at ITC The Sonar by night... the seven dates of March and April will not be forgotten in a hurry. Brian Lara, Priyanka Chopra, Katrina Kaif, Shilpa Shetty, Gauri Khan, Mehr Rampal, Sussanne Roshan… the list was glamorous with a capital G!

Sananda Tilottama
The final 10 groomed by Nayanika Chatterjee rocked, making Dabur Gulabari Sananda Tilottama 2010 live up to its billing of eastern India’s biggest and best beauty hunt. This year’s pageant crowned Arpita Sinha the winner, Guwahati girl Priti Kongkana Burman (right) the first runner-up and Sonika Chauhan the second runner-up. Hosted by Barry O’Brien and Dipannita Sharma Atwal, the judging panel included Ritu Kumar, Rashid Khan, Tapur Chatterjee and Anamika Lodha.

Hushh
In November, Hushh opened its second outlet in South City Mall. With cosy nooks and corners, a wine wall and New-York style lounge seating, Sushmita Sen “fell in love with the place” when she came to launch it. We, of course, fell in love with her. All over again.

Bertie & Amyt
The city’s troubadour prof-rocker Bertie da Silva’s recent outings with guitarist Amyt Datta — at ICCR and then at the US consul-general’s home — resulted in acoustic magic, bringing out the best in both and blending into playful ditties. It left us feeling good and wanting more.

Bengal Club
The heritage club just got younger with a swank Sports Bar With A Little Extra to catch your match on a giant plasma, pitcher of beer in hand. The club also got a new Italian eatery — Trattoria 1827 — with pizzas and pastas from the Don Giovanni kitchen.

Nocturne
The city’s party people have a new destination — Nocturne at 31 Shakespeare Sarani (HSBC Building). Unveiled by Genelia D’Souza, the lounge with a dance floor is comfy and cool. An almost 40ft bar table, great acoustics, hookahs to hubble bubble, a coffee-shop called Nocturne Haze in the basement...

Fortune Select Loudon
Business meets leisure at the hotel that opened its doors (replacing Rutt Din) at 21B UN Brahmachari Street in December. The hotel was unveiled by Priyanka Chopra, in the presence of many Tollywood stars.

Live @DI
Joe’s Pub of New York meets Mumbai’s Blue Frog at Live @DI, the club’s latest asset — its swank new bar. If the look is all modern, the music is a trip down memory lane with regular performances by Don Saigal, Hip Pocket and Blue Mist.
