For a barely-six-months-old, tiny little 12-seater restaurant, Ecstasea has been making big noise. The reason? Seafood, in copious quantities and in great avatars. Think a range as versatile and out-of-the-Calcutta-box as crab momo to prawn pickle, and yes, they are pretty competent with squid and octopus.
“We wanted a theme that’s not too explored in Calcutta. When people start a business, they start safe, but we took a risk and it paid off,” said Ecstasea co-owner Kunal Banerjee, who sources most of the seafood from Chandipur in Odisha. The crabs are deep-sea, which means the shells are relatively softer than that of mud crabs, making for a much less messy eat. Apart from seafood, you will also find chicken and vegetarian dishes.
There are plans to expand both the restaurant and the menu, which is great news for the hungry hordes knocking on the Ecstasea door.
