A wonderful week just went by with Friends Live Plugged being the icing on the cake. Anupam Roy, father-son team Anjan and Neel Dutt and guitar guru Amyt Datta played to a packed Nazrul Mancha last Sunday. 

Last week, we partnered several events, from the iNIFD fashion show Tomorrow Makers 2014-15 to celebration of World Radio Day on Friday, from Kingdom of Love at Eco Tourism Park to an amazing Valentine’s Day celebration on 91.9 Friends FM and more. 

So, there is never a dull moment in the life of a radio jockey. And our two new RJs –– Ashmita and Shalini –– know this well. 

Did you ever dream of being an RJ?

Ashmita: Yes, since eternity. I love music and grew up listening to the radio. Being garrulous and dwelling in a world where ABBA and the Beatles sang bedtime songs instead of stories, the dream of being an RJ intensified as I grew up. I would talk to walls, dolls and the mirror and I was waiting to be the ‘any hour of the day’ buddy for Calcutta. 

Shalini: I did not dream but it was a wish that I always wanted to come true. I love talking to people.  And when words escape me, music speaks. 

Two weeks in the RJ’s seat...

Ashmita: It’s surreal. I pinch myself every day! As the faders go up, I keep telling myself, this is what dreams are made up of… not stardust!

Shalini: The feeling is lovely, more because I have Ashmita with me! It’s a good feeling to be on air and talking to millions of people! 

Your message to the city?

Ashmita: If I can make you smile Calcutta, my life would feel complete. I would like you all to love Shalini and me forever and do keep yourself connected with our frenzy, Monday to Thursday, 9pm to midnight.
Shalini: Get set to rock and roll!
