After a fortnight of preparation (read: strict dieting, hair and skin routine and even midnight panic calls to best friends!), it was time to put all that practice into play. The 10 finalists of Streax Unish Kuri Glam Hunt 2012 walked down the ramp at ITC Sonar’s Pala on February 22, and after three rounds, Ekata Mukherjee and Avishek Lama were crowned Miss Glam Queen and Mr Glam King. A chat with the winners.

To fulfil my mother’s dream. She has always wished that I make a name for myself in the modelling world.

Did your family support you?

Yes! Around 15 family members came to watch the show.

First reaction after winning:

I felt like a kid. I wanted to jump and scream! I fell on my knees. Right now, I feel on top of the world.

Your inspiration is:

My mother and my 10-year-old brother. My brother would always tune into Fashion TV and tell me ‘Di, you will be there one day!’

It was when after the first round, Uday Pratap Singh (co-contestant) came and told me that I would win.

Biggest lesson learnt from the show:

One should never be overconfident.

What’s next?

College admissions.

I would also like to do a show with Shonal (Rawat) ma’am.

Glam King

Name:

Avishek Lama

Age: 23

Studying at: Calcutta Institute of Engineering and Management, final year.

You participated in Unish Kuri Glam Hunt because: I have a passion for modelling. Plus, everyone wants to be famous and so did I!

Did your family support you?

Yes, they did. My sister was here to see the show. However, I haven’t had the chance to call up my parents who are in my hometown Jaigaon (in Jalpaiguri).

First reaction after winning:

Disbelief! I was checking if I was Contestant Number 2, who had won the contest!

Your inspiration is: Sayan Ganguly (A finalist of Unish Kuri Glam Hunt 2011).

Memorable backstage moment:

After the first round, Shonal ma’am told me I was very good. It boosted my confidence and helped me in the next two rounds.

Biggest lesson learnt from the show:

Hard work pays and height is not the most important thing required to be a model.

What’s next?

Studies and exams. Modelling offers are tough to get on a regular basis, so studies are equally important.
