The day after Christmas, Salt Lake stadium was in the middle of a flurry of activity. Since early evening, scores of young girls had started trooping in, posters and placards in hand — all to catch a glimpse of super popular TV hunk Parth Samthaan who breezed through town as part of Marudhar Mela, partnered by t2. While his hundreds of fans went “Parth, Parth”, t2 snuck into the 24-year-old actor’s green room for a chat...
You had a lot of fun moments with fans today. How was it being with them?
Crazy is the word! Calcutta has been very sweet. People are warm. I must say I had a great time.
Your fans have loved you as Manik in MTV’s Kaisi Yeh Yaariaan. What do you think has made the character so popular?
I had a lot of good moments from both the seasons of the show. People could relate to our characters. People have liked Manik and Nandini’s (Niti Taylor) chemistry and the friendship that the characters presented through the show. A lot of people look up to us.
You experienced sudden stardom two years ago. Do you miss or regret anything?
I can’t step out of my house easily. Sometimes I think how life would have been if I wasn’t an actor. Life has changed drastically in the last two years, but I feel it’s just the beginning. It’s a good start. I have to climb the ladder steadily. I aim high.

How do you react to female adulation?
I have received loads of proposals. It’s insane! I have crazy fans across the country. People are generally mad for Bollywood stars, not so much for television actors… but everyone has been really sweet to me. But when fans come to the point of slitting their wrists, I don’t like it.
What kind of a girl would Parth Samthaan want as a partner?
Someone who doesn’t know me too well and randomly bumps into me. Then we will see how it goes. If we are destined to be together, then that is the first criterion because someone knowing you and already falling for you is not that interesting. I believe in having a lot of conversations. It is not only about looks. I would love to spend a good amount of time with her.
Are you fussy about your looks?
I am not fussy. But I am part of a generation where people look up to me and see how I look. I used to be one messed-up guy and I hardly bothered about what to wear and what not to wear. Now I have to meet new people every day and they click me. Then those pictures circulate all over the Net. Hence, I have to make sure that I am properly turned out.

Are you a workout addict?
I am particular but working out is not the only solution. I explore a lot of options to keep myself fit. I do cross-training; I run, play games and swim. I am a fitness freak but not a gym freak. I always tell people to eat nutritious food.
What’s next?
Obviously, films... Bollywood! (Smiles)
Haven’t you already signed a film with Shahid Kapoor’s sister Sanah, who debuted last year in Shaandaar?
Yeah, things are working out. We are in talks. (Smiles)

What’s your message for your Calcutta fans?
I would like to say please don’t stop caring about me as the show (Kaisi Yeh Yaariaan) has come to an end. Please support me in whatever I do... films or television. Please continue the craze.
