The primetime Emmy awards honoured the best and the brightest on the small screen Michael Douglas took home the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie for his turn as American musician Liberace in Behind the Candelabra. The two-time Oscar winner, recovering from cancer, thanked his estranged wife Catherine Zeta-Jones and children Dylan, Carys and Cameron and received a hug from co-star Matt Damon, who plays his lover in the film.

STYLE SCALE: At 68, he still sure knows how to work a two-piece black tux. Noticed his maroon pocket-square? We love!

ANNA GUNN won the Emmy for Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her portrayal of Skyler White in Breaking Bad that also won for Best Drama Series. The TRP topper is in its fifth and final season.

STYLE SCALE: She turned heads in a Romona Keveza gown. The glove-like fit of the black lace bodice followed by the effortless flow of the pretty pink. Sigh.

JIM PARSONS, Sheldon Cooper in The Big Bang Theory, won for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for his turn as the much-loved dork. The highlight of his speech? Calling longtime boyfriend Todd Spiewak “his favourite person on the planet”.

STYLE SCALE: Ditched his ‘Sheldon’ style and slipped into formals. He sure does look uber cute in his tuxedo!

JEFF DANIELS caused the major upset of the night, beating Breaking Bad’s Bryan Cranston to win the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for The Newsroom. Proof that the Dumb and Dumber star was as shocked at the win as the rest? He began his acceptance speech with: “Well, crap...!”

STYLE SCALE: Stuck to classic black trousers, black jacket and black tie. But look... he had two-tone lapels!

Claire Danes continues to impress as a CIA agent on the edge in Homeland, bagging the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. The Romeo+Juliet star beat out serious competition in Vera Farmiga, Robin Wright, Elisabeth Moss, Connie Britton and Kerry Washington.

STYLE SCALE: Her daring nude Armani Prive gown was certainly something to write home about. That plunging neckline! The shorter bob suits her style a lot better — too bad it was just a wig.
