The best part of India being a melting pot of different cultures is the number of festivals we get to celebrate. And festivals basically mean some great grub, music and dancing, friends and family — all on a happy high.
Which is exactly the mood that Calcutta Punjab Club wore on March 20, as members came together to celebrate the eve of Cheti Chand, the Sindhi new year.
On the second day of the month Chaitra, called “Chet” in Sindhi, Cheti Chand is celebrated to mark the birthday of Jhulelal, the patron saint of the Sindhis.
“We celebrate this festival every year, organising everything from the snacks to the dinner, which is on the house. The event was chock-a-block and I thank all our members for making it a big success,” said club president Kawaljit Singh Johar.
