Try the airport look

Celebs have perfected it at landing and take-off time. The paparazzi are devoted to it. It’s time you did it too

A celeb is a celeb 24x7. Not only because she is in the social media. She is also permanently flying, jetsetting from
one city to another, from one country to another, making shutterbugs go crazy as soon as she arrives. So while travelling, a celeb now dresses with special care. This style has earned a name: Airport Fashion, usually an ensemble of smart, no-fuss clothes that makes celebs sometimes look better, more natural, more like the people that they are. Airport Fashion has even grown a new brand of paparazzi: in Mumbai, a photographer like Viral Bhayani makes his living by clicking actors’ airport looks.

The good news is that airport fashion can be yours, too, for while it is stylish, it is practical, and it is nice to feel good about yourself as you wait at the airport or are airborne.

DOs

1 Be comfortable: Wear clothes that make you feel good. But comfortable doesn’t have to shabby. Travel in style. Keep your nails pared and hair washed: you will be seen from very close.

You never know who you are going to meet.

2 Go for layers: Now that winter is approaching, and you may be headed for colder places, layer, layer, layer. Wear a light cotton top made with a breathable material, pair it with jeans or leggings, throw on the top a long jacket, and, if possible, add a third jacket or long coat. Silk is a good material for winter travelling. Wear clothes with pockets.

3 Carry a roomy, handsome handbag. Carry a bag that will hold all:  it should have space for your passport, phone, phone charger, money, toiletries, laptop (if you are on a work trip),  toothbrush, toothpaste. Plus book/s. But the bag should be roomy, not baggy.

4 Wear sensible shoes. Avoid shoes with too many laces or high or pointed heels, as you may have to rush. The airport floor may be slippery.

DON’Ts

1 Don’t wear too many accessories. Dress simply, practically, and you will feel light. Besides, at the security check it’s a hassle taking off too many bracelets.

2 Don’t wear too much make-up. Heavy make-up can make the face look tired after three or four hours.

3 Don’t wear tight clothes. Travelling is easier when the jeans doesn’t bite into your waist or when your sleeve is not stretched too much as you haul your baggage into the loft overhead.

Do not wear fabrics that can smell. It will not be pleasant for you or for the others around you.

4 Don’t get into the airport without having slept well. You will look terrible. Agreed that early morning flights make you get up at a ghastly hour. But you must get a few hours of sleep before you fly. Take a nap during the flight. That is, if people are not begging for autographs.
