You must have often heard the old adage — have your cake and eat it too. Packed classrooms of students at the Salt Lake Sector V campus of International Institute of Hotel Management (IIHM) experienced just that on a Saturday last month when celebrity chef Ranveer Brar dropped by for the IIHM Masterclass Series.

Aishik Majumdar was ecstatic to meet his idol and had a gift for him — a sketch. “I follow him on Instagram and learn from his YouTube videos. I love his personality and the fact that he is a self-made man. He motivates me so much and I wish to work with him one day,” said the second-year student.

The TV anchor had tips galore for the budding chefs. While he addressed the first-year students on culinary arts, a special cooking session for the third-year students saw Brar whip up a preparation. From talking about the concept of a “perfect dish” to his “theory of dish hierarchy” — the ever-smiling chef had interesting things to share. The students of course loved every bit of it and albumed memories in selfies.

“IIHM believes in getting the best chefs of the world to come and conduct masterclasses for our students. This year we have Ranveer Brar who taught the students some incredible dishes along with food styling. The best thing about him is his simplicity and the fact that he makes cooking and food styling such great fun,” said Suborno Bose, CEO and chief mentor, IIHM.
