| I follow a pretty simple skin and hair care routine. Apart from the usual cleansing, toning and moisturising, I use a pack of besan and cream for my face. It works as a good cleanser for the skin, especially on humid grimy days. For my hair, I get a hot oil massage once a week. And of course, I drink lots of water every day. |
I am a 19-year-old man and I have had dark circles under my eyes for several years now, and so do my friend and my cousin. All of us wear glasses and we always thought that the glasses were the reason for our dark circles. But I recently read in your column that spectacles do not cause dark circles. However, I do follow a healthy diet and have an athletic physique and I also sleep for nine to 10 hours daily. Could you please advice me on this and suggest a remedy?

Dark circles under the eye can be hereditary. But take heart — there are ways by which you can lighten them considerably. Massage the under eye area with two drops of almond and coconut oil mixed together. Cut raw potato slices and keep them in a chill tray for half an hour before you cover your eyes with them. Make sure that you drink at least 10 glasses of water daily and eat a healthy diet that includes plenty of fresh fruits, salads and green vegetables.
I am a 12-year-old girl and have oily skin. Recently I have developed whiteheads all over my face and especially on my forehead. Please suggest a remedy that I can follow easily — I have to go to school so I do not have time for an elaborate skin care routine.

I hope you are not oiling your hair and leaving it on all night. Whiteheads are built up because of excess oil in the pores and your skin needs to be cleansed to get rid of these. Take 2tsp orange peel powder and mix with a teaspoon of Fullers earth and a little rose water to make a paste. Apply this on the skin and scrub the areas where the whiteheads are most prominent. Done on alternate days you will find that not only have the whiteheads reduced but your skin too will start looking cleaner and clearer.
