What is the inspiration behind your latest collection?

We wanted to come up with a more comfortable, everyday-wear line that also included a sleepwear collection. The idea behind the collection was to create a line that was super comfortable yet trendy, especially in today’s time when work from home is growing. So as work-from-home continues for most of us, these outfits are a perfect blend to relax in and step out in when possible. That’s why we came up with this very easy-breezy line of kaftans and everyday pyjama sets that can be worn both at home and even outside at brunch or at a slumber party with your friends.

How would you describe it?

The idea is comfortwear. The kind of fabrics that we’ve used is soft cotton and as well as satins, which are all very comfortable, breathable, and free-flowing fabrics to laze around in at home. The collection plays with a mix of bright colours combined with bold prints in our in-house hand-painting and block-printing techniques. Silhouettes for our loungewear range from flowy kaftans to cute pyjama sets in soft cotton and satin that give a comfortable feel.

How is it different from the other collections you have done?

This collection is different because we’ve never done a loungewear line before. We started as a resortwear brand that branched out with its first Indianwear line in 2019. So this was again a very new vertical for us, which came to light with the idea of being comfortable at home. The idea was to make a multifunctional collection that was comfortable yet cool, something you could wear at home to just chill and laze around in as well as step out with your friends for quick errands or even wear them on your holidays. So all the shirts and pants can be worn and teamed with other things from your wardrobe, which is important from a sustainable viewpoint.

Does the collection have a theme?

The collection doesn’t have a theme but the concept was to make it colourful and fun with bold prints to make it attractive to a wide age group of women. We continued with the main USP of our brand, which is all about hand-painting, block-printing, bold colours, abstract as well as geometric prints and patterns to keep our basics intact. We’ve elaborated more on this base to make everything bolder with a dash more colour. We’ve used three palettes — one with a lot of bright colours, one that has softer pastel shades, and one that is darker and extremely bold. We chose four or five main colours like blues, pinks, reds and so on and did lighter or deeper shades of the same colour. We have used lots of vibrant colours across the palette like sea green, lavender, lemon yellow, turquoise, orange and shades of blue.

What’s the best way to style these clothes?

With this collection, the shirts, pyjama sets and shorts can be teamed with anything from your wardrobe. The shirts and pyjama sets can be worn with denim and with any pants and palazzos that are in solid colours, or even printed if they’re in the same colour palette. White tie-up shirts with our shorts will look good together. Tank tops with a nice jacket on them can also be paired with our shorts. They’re extremely multifunctional and multipurpose so people can have fun with them. When you step out, then you can try layering some jewellery over the clothes and put on a pair of hoops that will look great with them.

Who is a current style icon you would love to see in this collection?

Honestly, I would love to see as many people as possible try these clothes because there is something here for everyone. Among all the established style icons however, I think somebody like Sonam Kapoor, who is known to love kaftans, would look great in these clothes.

What future plans do you have for the label?

The way the year is going, it’s difficult to plan right now. We have our summer collection ready to launch but we’re waiting to see what the best time to put it up would be. We also have an Indian collection that will come out before Diwali. So we’re structuring everything that we can for the future keeping in mind the current Covid situation and everything that is happening. Loungewear has been one of our newest verticals and we hope to explore many more, like venturing into kidswear and home decor as well. We are using this time to plan and structure things internally and prepare ourselves for a stronger tomorrow.

Could we get a sneak peak into the summer collection?

There are a lot of colours and prints happening, but what we’ve done is more abstract this time. We’ve gone with a lot of block-printing. We have a lot of easy dresses, pants, and crop tops. The collection will be a little bit more on the casual side.
