Like the year, very little about the fashion trends of 2020 felt normal or predictable, says www.purewow.com. A few highlights from their list:

TIE DYE

Apparently this ’60s throwback was catching on since 2018, but it shook up the scene in March and April.

SWEATSUITS

We wore them everywhere. Sweatsuits are the new jeans.

BIKE SHORTS

Kim Kardashian started it, wearing her spandex shorts paired with a tight tank top. Everyone said it didn’t work. Now look.

GOOD FOOTWEAR

Online searches for “orthopaedic” or “podiatrist-approved” shoes went up.

‘90S NOSTALGIA

Polo collar sweaters, claw hair clips, flannel shirts, combat and lug sole boots, scrunchies and baguette handbags were back from three decades ago.

FACE MASKS AND MASK CHAINS

Designer masks are passe. Innovations in masks included adjustable ear loops and anti-fog technology.

COTTAGECORE

The pandemic created a desire for the pastoral. Embroidered dresses, flouncy blouses and flowing sleeves in floral prints or pale pastels topped shopping lists.

CABINCORE

If that was in spring, fall brought in flannel shirts, hiking boots, beanie caps and jackets (a combo shirt/ jacket perfect for layering).

ZOOM TOPS

We are living in schizophrenic style, our top half not knowing what the bottom half is wearing. We are talking about Zoom calls, where everything is happening. So necklines exploded. Exaggerated Peter Pan collars, Victorian-era square necklines, puff sleeves, mocknecks and turtlenecks ruled as we also focused on our eyes and our lips, for a perfect screenworthy face, while waist downwards it was pajamas.

PRINCESS DIANA STYLE

After years of Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle, the original Princess returned. Diana’s kitschy knitwear style came back in fashion again.
