There are some benefits of using sulfate-free shampoos. But is it justifiable to drop everything that contains sulfates?

What are sulfates ?

Sulphates are “surfactants”, which are a number of detergents, emulsifiers and foam-making substances that draw out both oil and water. They allow dirt and dead skin cells to be removed from the scalp or skin quite effectively and experts feel they may not be harmful for many users.

But for some, they can have a few negative side effects.

They can strip moisture from the hair when over-used and make hair dry, rough and brittle. They can irritate sensitive scalps.

BENEFITS OF SULFATE-FREE SHAMPOO

1. It helps to retain the

natural moisture in hair.

2. It is a blessing for coloured hair. It does not strip the colour fast and is gentle to the hair.

3. It is good for sensitive scalp to normal scalp.

4. If your eyes are sensitive to shampoos, you should use a sulfate-free shampoo.

5. It works wonders on low porosity hair. Which means if your hair finds it difficult

to retain moisture, the shampoo will help to moisturise hair and tame down frizz.

6. It is best for chemically-treated hair as a sulfate-free shampoo does not strip hair of moisture.
