Street food, gourmet cuisine, fresh-from-the-farm fare, fashion, beauty products, lifestyle picks — all of these and more were on offer at Kolkata Market by Karen Anand in association with t2 at Hyatt Regency Kolkata on February 25. For the first time, the market featured live music, with a 70s-themed performance by Carlton and Aradhana. Shoppers sipped on drinks and munched on bites from across several stalls, one of which was K’s Kitchen, food and wine writer Karen Anand’s own brand of conserves, dressings and sauces. A workshop hosted by Karen allowed participants to try their hand at some recipes.

Khichdi Khichri’s array of offerings included Baked Khichdi, Ven Pongal, Vegetable Masala Khichdi and Himachali Khichdi.

The Yellow Straw’s pure fruit juices with no water or preservatives came in multiple flavours, including Detox Skin Glow, made of apple, ginger, beet, carrot and lemon, at Rs 150 per jar.

The Frozen Tree’s Red Wine Sangria popsicle with frozen fruit chunks at Rs 170 was a soother in the afternoon heat.

The ready-to-eat salad bowls from The Slate were available in Buddha Bowl and Maroush Bowl (in picture) with pomegranate seeds and Mediterranean vegetables in tahina and sesame seed dressing.

The gourmet catering outlet Flavour Box had global dishes such as
Bunny Chow Buns and Watermelon and Feta salad (below).

Kadhali’s brookies or brownie cookies came at Rs 200 per box and were made with cashew butter, banana flour, almond milk, sea salt, oats and cocoa powder.Caption

Food and wine writer Karen Anand (in picture below) hosted a cooking workshop for 10 lucky readers of t2 who peeled, chopped and sliced away to rustle up nutritious and healthy summer salads. “Since we’re not from the state, it’s quite a task to organise this. What my girls and I do is we try and bring some familiarity as well as some change with every edition, especially when it’s twice a year. We have fewer stalls this time following feedback from November. We have got some stores from states like Uttarakhand and Karnataka. We’re very grateful to Calcutta — no matter what time of the year it is, it always works!” said Karen.

Shweta Kejriwal cooled off with a Strawberry Basil popsicle from The Frozen Tree. “My friends had been to the earlier one and loved it, so I decided to give it a try,” said the recent graduate, whose favourite dish at the market was the Margherita Pizza from Hyatt’s own kitchen.

Bhawna and Sandeep Shah travelled all the way from their home in Vedic Village for the market. “I loved the workshop. I want to make the salads at home!” said Bhawna, who owns an online home decor store.

Friends Jaspreet Kaur (left) and Roma Singh learnt about the event on Facebook. “I love the collection of organic Holi colours in the market, as I think people really appreciate natural products for the festival nowadays,” said Jaspreet, owner of Sheeran’s Couture.

Friends Manisha Mukherjee and Avinash Mukherjee loved the range of food available at the market. “We tried popsicles from The Frozen Tree, rolls from K2 and cocktails from the bar. The market was very well organised,” said Manisha, associate director of sales at The Park.

“It’s really cool to have Karen here today and to see Calcuttans coming out to check out all the delicacies and organic goodies that she has curated for this event,” said Birgit Holm, the general manager of Hyatt Regency Kolkata.
