The prep

Ensure your face and neck are adequately moisturised before you start doing your make-up. Apply foundation and concealer where needed. Set with pressed translucent powder to last longer. A liquid concealer is your best bet for dark circles or drying under the eyes this winter.

Full brows

Having tidy eyebrows make all the difference to your face. Well-shaped and tinted eyebrows can change your look. Full eyebrows are in style now. Buy a magnifying mirror for tweezing and you will be astounded as to what you’re missing.

Tip: To get perfect full eyebrows, you need to run a little bit of eyebrow wax over the unruly eyebrows. Dip an angular brush into eyebrow powder and define the lower edge of the brow and then the upper edge — arched or rounded. Then take an eyebrow brush, dip in the eyebrow powder and run it through the entire length of your eyebrows. Clean up with concealer to give it a sharp edge.

Metallic eyes

Sweep a light shimmer eyeshadow across the lid, taking the colour all the way up to the brow — this will help highlight the eye area and lift the eye.

Use a dark chocolate shade on the outer corners of the lid and work it into the crease of the eye and blend well. Smudge the same dark chocolate shade along the lower lashes using a fine eyeshadow brush to give a soft, smudged look.

Finish with kajal and a ton of mascara. Line the top lash line, extending the tail of the liner out in a feline flick and that’s just purr-fect!  Glitter and glimmer on your eyes  will add to your sparkle this party season.

Volume locks

Big hair is big news this season, so go for it! The latest hairstyles are voluminous without being overstyled. It’s casual yet glamorous. The look is all about body and movement.

Party pony:

Make a simple high pony, flick it with serum and dress it up with glitter. To make the shape more groomed, tong the length in sections, then smoothen with your hands so it falls into a nice ‘S’ shape. Spritz the end with glitter spray or dust on loose glitter with a make-up brush to add extra sparkle. You might leave a trail of stardust everywhere you go but that’s a not bad thing, right?

Party plait:

Forget the complicated eight-strand braid — a bit of texture turns a basic three-strand plait into a statement tie. Prep hair with texture hair spray. Backcomb your roots to create height. Sweep all your hair over one shoulder, leaving a few wispy bits to frame your face. Then braid your hair and backcomb the ends with a tail comb to hold the plait in place. A bling elastic would totally rock the look.

Flushed cheeks

Contour under the cheekbone using a matte tawny powder blush with a large flat fan-shaped brush. Make fish lips and work along the crease below your cheeks, blending well. Create a pretty glow by using a little cream highlighter on the cheeks. To brighten, finish with pink rose blusher on the apples of the cheeks. A slight orange or a coral colour is on-trend this winter.

Pucker up

Red is the colour of the season. Choose your favourite hue — berry berry, wine or ox-blood.
