Being a full-time musician, I’m glad to report, that there’s no office for me. Things are pretty erratic and besides my regular gigs on Thursdays at Someplace Else, I’m more or less a free bird ? of course, that’s when other shows don’t crop up. So when it comes around to weekends, it basically means a time when my friends are free.
On Saturdays, I rise and shine at around 8am and soon after, I take a good half hour to 45 minutes for my riyaaz. Next on my agenda is scanning the newspapers ? primarily to check out the latest films in the theatres. I’m a movie buff and if the schedule permits, I love to catch an early evening film on Saturdays.
I also love going to the Tollygunge Club. I guess it’s the wide-open spaces and greenery there that has me visiting over and over again. By early evening, the entire group starts calling up enquiring about the plan of action for the night ahead. Sometimes, we hang out at my place, at other times we meet up at another friend’s house. But always, at some point of time, we end up at The Park, be it at Someplace Else or Roxy.
After a night out, Sundays are usually when I sleep in late. Lunch is generally at The Tolly or at my parents’ place.
And after that, my friends and I meet up again to watch the latest DVDs and chill out with a couple of beers. It’s like having our own little film club. Movies rule the rest of the day and I love catching the late night film at one of the multiplexes. The last movie that I saw was Being Cyrus, which I thought was a really neat production by an Indian filmmaker. Saif was brilliant too.
Of course, food stops are squeezed in between all these movies. I love Chinese food, so Mainland China and Taaza figure on my favourites list. Recently though, I am growing to love Hou Hua on Free School Street. I think they make the best Chimney Soup.
