nI am a die-hard long drive fan and love taking off on a road trip. The mere detail that I don’t drive has never deterred me in any way, and obviously it’s more fun being driven around than doing it myself. My favourite long drive is the stretch from Calcutta to Santiniketan with my friend Chitralekha behind the wheel. A good driver and a conversationalist par excellence, Chitra also has the best music system in her car and great taste in music to match! I prefer a small group on these trips, one or two close friends, comfortable silence interspersed with good music and intelligent conversation. Blues in the background, a friend to talk with and the changing landscape whizzing past in its myriad hues is all I need to feel completely refreshed.

Actually, I am really excited about a trip we have planned for June. The smell of the rain-soaked earth, cool gleaming roads and monsoons in Santiniketan ? I can’t wait!
