This Mother’s Day, Ralph Lauren is gifting women a lovely video called ‘Lead Like a Woman’.

Not that this is not business. Ralph Lauren already has Woman, an eau de parfum and other products, and the ‘Lead Like a Woman’ campaign is linked to this line. But the video, made in partnership with Women in Film, a media parity advocacy organisation, is not only about Ralph Lauren. It is also about some well-liked women talking about their mothers.

The first of a series of three short films, this video features actresses Jessica Chastain, Zoe Lister-Jones and Rachael Taylor. Chastain, Ralph Lauren’s ambassador for the Woman fragrance, salutes her grandmother and mother for making the sacrifices for her to “help get me where I am today”.

“She was always breaking the glass ceiling and continues to inspire me to break those ceilings. There’s so many ceilings, keep goin’ up and up and up,” says Lister-Jones, actress and writer. “But we gotta keep breaking them.” Lister-Jones is an actress and writer.

Global fashion trends are changing big time. These are not only what’s being shown on the ramp or the Instagram, but also the backdrop: perspectives are changing, which include those on gender. Big fashion houses are sending “good” messages out to women.

The next two films from Ralph Lauren will be called Lead With Intensity and Sisterhood of Leaders. Ralph Lauren has pledged to interview at least one qualified woman for every open position, vice-president and above.

Last year Dior, under the leadership of its new head Maria Grazia Chiuri, had presented T-shirts saying “We Should All Be Feminists”, a line inspired by writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. And recently, Lancome re-introduced Isabella Rossellini as their ambassador at age 65.
