High spirits, loud cheers, and guests with their eyes glued to a giant screen — the Friday night scene  at Whats In D Name on June 15 was quite different from regular party nights. The reason? The much-awaited FIFA World Cup match between Portugal vs Spain. Some donned their fave team’s jersey while others just clapped and cheered. Although support for the teams was divided, the loudest shrieks were heard when Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo got a hat-trick! Snapshots...

The “magic cups” with the World Cup trophy on them were the most Instagrammed objects at the bar. From occasional victory dances to stirring up a drink, the bartenders had their A-game on.

Pujah K. Sethia got lucky on Friday. The Calcuttan whose love for football began when studying in the UK walked away with a champagne bottle at a discounted price after she participated in the predict-and-win contest where one had to guess the first half score. “It was a tactical estimate. Portugal scored so soon into the match that I felt they had the upper hand. With one goal from Spain, 2-1 seemed the right way to go,” said the Portugal fan.
Although a Manchester United fan at heart, Davit Gevorgyan (second from right) and his friends watched the game closely with raised beers for Portugal. Conversation turned to the sacking of Spain’s manager, Julen Lopetegui. “I agree it was the right thing to do, but we all know they will only use it as an excuse when Germany beat them later,” said Karen Mkrtchyan (far right).
For Siddhartha Sharma and Preeti, the yay moment was when CR7 netted a goal with a free kick. “There are goals but then there are stunners like this which are iconic and you cannot forget,” said the businessman.
