To tell you the truth I have never been much of a cat lover, but I have always loved Cats. Am I sounding
confusing? Not really, if you notice that the second mention of the feline starts with a capital and is in
italics…which simply means that I am talking about Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical Cats, the second-longest running show on Broadway, after The Phantom of the Opera. Based on Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats by
T.S. Eliot, the musical is about a tribe of cats called the Jellicles. I had the good fortune of seeing the musical a few years ago and loved every moment of it: from the moment Rum Tum Tugger comes on, to Grizabella’s soulful rendition of Memory, to Old Deutronomy’s final Ad-Dressing of the Cats. Who can forget the mischievous
Mongojerrie and Rumpelteazer, the mysterious Mr. Mistoffellees, the clever Skinbleshanks, the master criminal Macavity and the troupe of dancing, jumping and cart-wheeling cats. There’s no business like show business!
