Bridgette Jones Has The Most Effective Hair And Make-up Tricks Up Her Sleeve Published 03.02.13, 12:00 AM

I am a 28-year-old woman with fair complexion on the pale side. I’d like to know what kind of foundation to use as my skin is acne-prone and what would be the best base make-up for me to conceal acne and blemishes. Could you please suggest some safe lipstick shades for me too.

Avoid anything too rich or oily as the oil content could aggravate your symptoms. Also, avoid anything too heavy because if not applied really well, formulas with heavy coverage end up highlighting spots rather than concealing them. Avoid compact formula because it can clog the pores and become a breeding ground for bacteria. That leaves you with the choice between a lightweight liquid formula or a tinted oil-free moisturiser.

For the best result, don’t try to completely cover a broken out face with a thick layer of foundation. Use a small amount of foundation on the whole face and then use concealer to hide blemishes. Use a dabbing or patting motion as opposed to rubbing or wiping.

Imagine that you are gently trying to press the concealer into the skin. Rubbing or wiping just removes most of it and then you want to apply more because it is not concealing properly, and you just end up with a big mess. If any blemishes are still visible, use a pointy concealer brush to dab a tiny bit more concealer on them and then set with a cotton bud dipped in a tiny bit of powder on each blemish.

Lips colours that are just two of three tones darker than your actual skin would suit you the most. Though light, lip colours like caramel, coffee, peach, pink, rose pink and wine colours would impart a fresh and lively look to your face.

I have combination skin and Garnier’s face pack and body lotions really suit me. Also, Fabindia’s papaya face pack is a favourite and works well for me. I also apply olive or castor oil before taking a hot shower as it soaks well into the skin, making it supple. I try to keep make-up to a bare minimum but when shooting it cannot be avoided so I go with M.A.C kajal and Studio Fix foundation.
