Tahweave, a sustainable fashion label by designer duo Sweta Tantia and Priyangshu Maji, is finding favour with quite a few Bollywood stars. Kalki Koechlin, Dia Mirza and Ileana D’Cruz have been spotted in signature handwoven pieces from the label’s spring-summer 2018 line. t2 caught up with the duo to understand what makes Tahweave click, on the sidelines of a fashion shoot of the collection with Aami Ashbo Phirey actress Sauraseni Maitra.
How and why did you come up with Tahweave, when you already had an established label, Garo?
Tahweave was always on our mind. We wanted to explore a brand that could be about fresh, easy clothing. Our love for textiles helped us create it. We visited the textile hubs of Bengal like Phulia and Shantipur and loved the weaves instantly. We also thought of doing something for the weavers who put in so much effort to get the fabrics to us. So we put our heart into it and Tahweave was born with a motive to give something back to the society.
Many other designers are making handloom collections now, how do you make Tahweave different from the rest?
Tahweave is an environment-friendly and affordable brand that doesn’t follow the usual trend to make loose and boxy silhouettes. It is more like a fun brand with straight and fitted silhouettes, fresh yet sexy.
Who is the Tahweave woman?
Tahweave is meant for a globetrotter. This is a fresh label that looks equally beautiful on a girl in her 20s as on a lady in her mid-40s.
The stars are loving it…
It was unexpected that Tahweave has been loved and adored by so many people. It thoroughly amazed us when celebrities like Kalki Koechlin, Ileana D’Cruz and Dia Mirza loved flaunting Tahweave and looked impeccably fresh and beautiful.

The collection is available at Kalon on P-72B Sardar Sankar Road in Calcutta and leading fashion stores in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad and Goa
