With Calcutta feeling like a boiling cauldron, we dialled hair pro Adhuna Bhabani for some quick tips to super mane. A t2 chat with the founder and creative director of BBLUNT.

There are people over the years who I have admired for experimenting with their hair. Like Beyonce and Alicia Keys. Also Madonna in her time…  she would always do something very different and radical

What’s the hairstyle to sport this summer?

It is kind of an easy-breezy feel… natural and relaxed, working with natural textures and dishevelled shape. I think it is a lot about the texture of the hair. If you see any fashion magazine or even on catwalks where people are creating looks, the textures of the clothes are very layered, uneven… there is a certain dishevelledness to it. That is what we have created in our latest BBLUNT collection, B Me. Whether it is a bob, a long style or a shorter shape, the one thing that is big in terms of style is the texture. There is no shine any more. It is more of a matte finish to the hair… more of a beach-y feel.

What are the colours of the season for you?

Like always, there are some people who go for really bold looks. Everyone is kind of going for colours. I think people, at least in India, are not adventurous enough to change the length of their hair every now and then but everybody seems to be adventurous when it comes to colours. Whether it is a block solid colour or just something to add shine or a dramatic fashion colour, I think the big thing is colour.

The Pantone colour of the year is Ultra Violet. We are also seeing a lot of monochromes in clothes that is sort of cool to offset with a dramatic hair colour. Ultra Violet is of course not going to work for everyone. It is a difficult colour to achieve if your hair is naturally dark. Then it has to be highly lightened to achieve that kind of colour. There was someone I saw in Goa… she was in a lime green swimsuit with candy pink flamingo hair, which was great.

What would be your top tips to take care of hair in this heat?

Try and ensure that you use products that protect your hair. When the climate is extreme in any way, the way you would protect your skin in a dry climate or a hot climate, with SPF and moisturiser… you should apply the same philosophy to your hair. Starting from your shampoo to your conditioner, the ingredients in a particular product should be according to your hair type. If you have long hair, keep it off your neck if that helps you to cool down or cut it off (laughs). Moisture, hydration and protection are what I would look for in a product at this time of the year.

Whose hairstyle has caught your eye recently?

There are people over the years who I have admired for experimenting with their hair. Like Beyonce and Alicia Keys. Also Madonna in her time… she would always do something very different and radical. There’s a lot of work that other hairdressers do that I see in fashion magazines that I kind of appreciate more than what I see on celebrity hair.

What are your personal summer loves?

I am loving the beach-y hair now... more of textures…. I’d like to be on the beach perpetually. I won’t mind trying Ultra Violet or pink at some point. That’s my plan.

What are some of the film projects that your team is working on right now?

We are working on a lot of things right now. We are working on Zoya’s (Akhtar) film Gully Boy. Avan (Contractor) has created all the looks for that. That’s a really different kind of project for us because it is not really hair-centric… it’s about creating a look and a character. It is also interesting to look at a project that way... to be able to play down the hair. Our recent product launches have been additions to our dry shampoo range. We added some fragrances to that range.
