The Man Booker Prize longlist, announced on July 24, marks many a first, with a graphic novel (Nick Drnaso’s Sabrina) and a verse-novel (Scottish poet Robin Robertson’s The Long Take) making it to the list.
Fresh from his Golden Booker triumph, Michael Ondaatje is nominated again, this time for his Warlight that opens in the London of 1945.
The list also includes first-time authors like Guy Gunaratne (In Our Mad and Furious City: The Place Was In Our Blood) and Daisy Johnson (Everything Under).
While Drnaso’s graphic novel is a take on how a personal tragedy becomes fodder for the 24-hour news cycle, Robertson’s is a noir that follows a D-Day veteran’s search for a home.
