Yoga enthusiasts in the city have something new to look forward to. Isha Yogashala, a dedicated Hatha yoga studio under the aegis of Sadhguru’s Isha Foundation, opened doors as the foundation’s first dedicated Hatha yoga studio in the world.

With its flagship branch in City Centre Salt Lake and another one on Shakespeare Sarani, it offers five ancient practices — Upa Yoga, Angamardana, Surya Kriya, Yogasanas and Bhuta Shuddhi, which together aim at the holistic well-being of an individual. There are special programmes for children, corporates, pregnant women and people with obesity.

What: Isha Yogashala

Where: D-405, fourth floor, City Centre Salt Lake; 24A Shakespeare Sarani (opposite Standard Chartered bank)

Timings: 6.30am to 8.30pm, Monday to Saturday; 7am to 1pm on Sunday

Membership: Rs 2,000 per month, in packages of one, three, six and 12 months

The yoga studio has a metallic sculpture at the entrance featuring an amalgamation of the sun and moon, which symbolises Hatha yoga, as “Ha” means sun and “tha” means moon in Sanskrit. The snakes on the left signify the unmanifested energy within oneself, as per yogic customs.
The winter sessions of the Yogashala will take place in this beautiful terrace garden.
The six instructors of the Isha Yogashala demonstrated three Hatha yoga asanas — Vrikshasana or the tree posture, Ashva Sanchalanasana or the equestrian posture, and Bhujangasana or the snake posture. “I could always go back to my father’s business after my graduation but I knew that wasn’t my calling and that’s when I met Sadhguru and found my true passion of helping and improving the well-being of others through the power of yoga,” said Vivek Dinodia (third from right), who after his graduation from Princeton University in 2017 now heads both the Isha Yogashala centres in the city.
The merchandise section, or the Isha Shoppe, has a variety of Isha products like herbal cosmetics, essential oils and non-caffeinated coffee powder, alongside indigenous linen and cotton clothing.
