Police had to intervene when a nurse of a private hospital who tested positive for Covid-19 faced resistance from neighbours after she opted for home quarantine.

The 45-year-old, who lives at a housing complex in Narendrapur, said she had received her test report on Friday and informed the residents’ association of her decision to remain quarantined at home.

On Saturday, her help, who was told not to come to work, complained to police about the nurse’s decision not to allow her in.

“The nurse was only trying to help her. But as the help was a direct contact of the nurse, she has been quarantined at a hospital,” said an officer at Narendrapur police station.

“I have opted for home quarantine because there is no one to look after my six-year-old child. My hospital got the clearance from the health department,” the nurse told The Telegraph.

The nurse said she got “complete cooperation” from the secretary of the complex but several residents allegedly started pressuring the association to force the nurse to go to hospital.

“My hospital again got in touch with the health department, which told the police that my home quarantine had been approved,” she added. Police officers said they conveyed the health department’s decision to the association.
