New Delhi, July 19: Mercedes Benz India will face supply constraints when it launches its B-Class in India at a price tag of Rs 25 lakh in September.
Globally, Mercedes is struggling to cope with demand for its first product in the new generation compact car platform and has already sold 70,000 units, while being overbooked for 30,000 cars. India will be allotted only 100-200 units from its Rastatt and Kashkamet factories in Germany and Hungary, respectively, Peter Honegg, managing director of Mercedes Benz India, said at the preview of the B-Class in New Delhi today.
“The B-Class represents a whole new segment, that of a sports tourer. This segment is unrepresented in the Indian market till now. We will have the first mover advantage in the market and this is where the future market will grow,” Honegg added. On rival Audi’s Q3 and BMW’s X1 models, Honegg said, “We will soon have a product in that segment and the GLC-Class in the sports activity segment, too, in 2013.”
