Calcutta, Nov. 19: Kurlon Enterprises plans to invest Rs 500 crore in the next five years to expand capacity.
"We will invest Rs 100 crore a year on an average for the next five years," said T. Sudhakar Pai, MD of Kurlon Enterprises.
The company has nine units across the country, of which six manufacture mattresses, while the rest make sofa, furniture and polyurethane foam. It is also setting up a new factory in Bhubaneswar at an investment of Rs 200 crore.
"We are planning three more units in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh," he said. Besides, the company is in talks with the Assam government to set up a plant. "The Assam government has approached us to set up a unit there and we are in talks with them."
The company, which reported a turnover of Rs 1,000 crore in 2015-16, is eyeing a 20-25 per cent growth next year.
Pai said, "Although we have forayed into some new segments, our major business comprises mattresses."
Nationally, the mattress industry (both organised and unorganised) has a market size of around Rs 6,000 crore. "Our share is over 50 per cent nationally," said Ravi Sahgal, executive vice-president and business head of Kurlon Enterprises.
The size of the market for mattresses in the east is around Rs 1,500 crore, of which Kurlon claims to have a 65 per cent pie.
