Hindalco net jumps

Mumbai, May 4: Hindalco Industries has posted a 54.89 per cent jump in net profit at Rs 2,564.3 crore for the year ended March 31 against Rs 1,655.5 crore in the previous year. Its total income has increased 60.5 per cent to Rs 18,683.1 crore from Rs 11,640 crore.

During the quarter ended March 31, the Aditya Birla Group flagship has reported a 15.16 per cent rise in net profit at Rs 721.3 crore compared with Rs 626.3 crore a year ago on rising metal demand because of growth in infrastructure and the automobile industry. Its total income stood at Rs 4,872.2 crore against Rs 3,731.7 crore in the year-ago period, representing a growth of 30.56 per cent.

Hindalco’s consolidated revenues stood at Rs 18,313 crore for the year ended March 31, which is nearly 61 per cent higher than Rs 11,396.5 crore recorded in the previous year.

The company’s board decided not to recommend any further dividend and to treat the interim dividend declared earlier as the final one.

The board at its meeting on March 12, had declared an interim dividend of 170 per cent adding up to Rs 177.3 crore together with corporate dividend tax of Rs 24.9 crore. The total payout was Rs 202.2 crore.

The Hindalco stock today rose 1.5 per cent to close at Rs 148.15 on the BSE.

Saregama profit

Saregama India has recorded a revenue growth of 14 per cent at Rs 135.5 crore for the year ended March 31 against Rs 118.9 crore a year ago. Its net profit stood at about Rs 14 crore against Rs 8.8 crore in the previous year.

The company’s net sales for the quarter ended March 31 has declined to Rs 28.63 crore from Rs 29.46 crore in the year-ago period. Its net profit has increased almost 156 per cent at Rs 4.31 crore against Rs 1.68 crore during the corresponding period in the previous year.

“We are now focussing on our bottomline. We expect a profit of about 40-50 per cent during 2007-08,” Subroto Chattopadhyay, managing director of Saregama India, said.
