Coal India on Monday said it registered an 11 per cent year-on-year growth in coal supply to the power sector.

During the April-December period of 2022, supply to the power sector was 432.7mt (million tonnes) compared with 390.2mt a year ago.

Increased production has also led to a rise in supply to non-power consumers at 10.5mt during December, which is the highest for the fiscal year so far.

The public sector miner had closed December with a coal stock of 32mt.

Coal India’s overall production was 479mt during April-December. The sustained double-digit growth implies the asking growth rate to meet the target has slid down to 5.7 per cent from 12.4 per cent.

“In order to outdo the annual output target of 700 mt, CIL has to produce 221mt in Q4FY23 against 209mt a year ago. Our production pace is already up and expected to rise higher. Another point in our favour is large quantities of overburden removal ,” said a senior executive of Coal India
