AI plans big base in Dubai

Dubai, April 25: Air India will create a major operations centre in Dubai as “there is a lot of demand for traffic from the Gulf to various points in India” and maximum number of flights are operated there, Air India chairman Arvind Jadhav said here today. Aviation minister Vayalar Ravi said the government was considering extending financial support to Air India and discussions were going on between the airline management and a bank consortium to convert its high interest loans to low interest ones.

Bank review

New Delhi, April 25: The finance ministry will hold the annual performance review of public sector banks here tomorrow to discuss various issues, including non-performing assets and financial inclusion. The meeting will be chaired by financial services secretary Shashi Kant Sharma.

JLR plant

London, April 25: Tata Motors, the parent company of Jaguar Land Rover, is in the final stages of deciding whether to build a new plant tailored to JLR in Britain or India, according to a report in Daily Telegraph. Britain is the favourite option, with sites in the Wolverhampton area and South Wales on the shortlist.

Essar move

London, April 25: Essar Group plans to spin off its businesses in the market here after the successful listing of Essar Energy last year. Group chief executive Prashant Ruia told The Times that the company was considering a UK listing for other parts of the business, including its ports and shipping arm.
