Services output hope

New Delhi, Dec. 4: India’s services sector activity witnessed a moderate improvement in November over the previous month, even while indicating the fifth successive monthly contraction, an HSBC survey said today. The HSBC/Markit Purchasing Managers Index for the services industry inched up to 47.2 in November from 47.1 in October, the fifth sub-50.0 reading and indicated an output contraction across the Indian service economy.

Tax warning

Bangalore/ Hyderabad, Dec. 4: Finance minister P. Chidambaram today said service tax amnesty scheme VCES was a lifetime opportunity as such offers were unlikely to come again in the next 20 years, even as he warned that evaders would eventually be “identified and reached”.

Vodafone

New Delhi, Dec. 4: Notwithstanding its nearly Rs 12,000-crore tax dispute with the government, Vodafone plans to invest $3 billion in the next two years for network expansion in rural areas.

Leyland VRS

Chennai, Dec. 4: Hinduja Group flagship company Ashok Leyland has offered voluntary retirement service for 500 senior officials as on November 30, Ashok Leyland managing director Vinod K. Dasari said today.

ACC extension

New Delhi, Dec. 4: Cement maker ACC’s chief executive officer and managing director Kuldip Kaura has received a one-year extension in his current position till the end of December next year.

Cairn India

New Delhi, Dec. 4: Cairn India has appointed Mike Yeager, former CEO of global petroleum business at BHP Billiton, as chairman, operations review board, of the company.

Essar Oil

New Delhi, Dec. 4: Essar Oil’s promoter is seeking to convert FCCBs aggregating $262 million into equity shares. The company has received a notice from promoter company, Essar Energy Holdings seeking the conversion of FCCBs.
