Heat on Iran banker

Washington, Feb. 4: Nine influential US Senators have urged Germany to stop Hamburg-based bank Europäisch-Iranische Handelsbank (EIH) from routing funds that could be used to support Iran’s nuclear programme, warning that all entities doing so will be debarred from the US financial system. EIH was sanctioned by the US in September 2010 for its facilitation of Iran’s proliferation activities.

Air India

New Delhi, Feb. 4: Air India has posted an operating surplus for the second month in a row with flights to 106 out of 179 destinations registering cash profit in December. The ailing national carrier posted Rs 49.48 crore worth of operating surplus against Rs 21.66 crore in November, an Air India spokesperson said.

EIL plan

New Delhi, Feb. 4: State-run Engineers India Ltd (EIL) may acquire an equity stake in the refinery and petrochemical projects where it is likely to give engineering and construction consultancy, chairman and managing director A. K. Purwaha said today.

Scooters India

New Delhi, Feb. 4: Favouring an outright sale of closed PSUs, heavy industries minister Praful Patel said ailing Scooters India could be considered for complete privatisation.

NMDC deals

Hyderabad, Feb. 4: State-run NMDC is likely to seal deals for two Australian iron ore mines in the first week of March, chairman and managing director Rana Som said.

PSU buys

New Delhi, Feb. 4: The government is mulling a fast track approval of PSU proposals for acquisition of natural resources such as oil, coal and mines overseas without going to the cabinet, a top official said.

Cairn talks

New Delhi, Feb. 4: The government has kept ONGC out of the much-talked about February 6 meeting called to delibrate on the approval for the Vedanta Resources’ $9.6-billion acquisition of Cairn India.
