Calcutta, July 1: Taiwan-based Asus expects its smartphone and laptop sales to grow 100 per cent and 50 per cent, respectively, in India by the end of this fiscal.

"We plan to double the average monthly sales of 2,00,000 units for smartphones and to increase the sale of 20,000 laptops by 50 per cent by the end of March 2017," said Peter Chang, regional head of South Asia and country manager (systems business group), Asus India during the launch of their first exclusive Republic of Gamers store in the city today.

The company has a market share of 2.5 per cent in smartphones and is keen to boost its presence in the premium segment soon. In India, the market size for smartphones is 100 million units.

The company has a manufacturing contract with Foxconn in the country to produce 1,00,000 units per month. However, the company does not plan to ramp up production immediately to meet its projected monthly sales of 4,00,000 smartphones. It imports most of its products from China.

In laptops, Asus has a market share of 10 per cent in India.

"We have also entered the gaming PC segment recently and since there are few players in this category, it will help the company to grow faster," Chang said.
