Patna: A speeding van hit two teen brothers at Buddha Colony in Patna, killing the younger sibling, just a day before the Road Safety Week ends on Monday.
The brothers were residents of north Mandiri.
The deceased Om Kumar, 13, was sent to Patna Medical College and Hospital where he was declared dead while Deepak Kumar, 16, received minor injuries in the incident.
The accident occurred at Rajeev Nagar Road No-23 around 4pm. The brothers were walking home when a Maruti van hit them.
The area falls under the jurisdiction of Buddha Colony police station.
Manoj Mohan, the station house officer, said the driver of the van confessed he had pressed the accelerator instead of applying the brakes.
"A complaint from the deceased's father, Rajiv Yadav, who is an autorickshaw driver has been taken and forwarded to the traffic department. The vehicle has been seized and the driver has been taken into custody. The driver too resides in the same area in which victims stay," said Mohan.
A few days ago a speeding truck had crushed a student of National Institute of Fashion Technology in the New Bypass area.
