Patna, Aug. 11: Men-in-uniform should be in their uniform, at least when they are on duty in their respective police stations.

“The idea of police personnel sitting idle in civil attire or sometimes in their vests is a complete and a strict turn-off, something which will invite tough action,” the Patna senior superintendent of police, B.S. Meena, told The Telegraph on Wednesday.

In what could turn to be a big boost up for the force, an operation team successful in cracking crimes through arrests were awarded by the department the same day.

Meena, who took charge as the Patna SSP only a couple of days back, has laid down certain simple regulations the different police stations need to abide by.

He said that every police station should have at least two personnel in their full uniform to cater to complainants at any given time.

“I have had a meeting with the officers-in-charge of police stations and have directed them the same. It should not happen that a complainant has to wait on and on outside the station while those in the station say that the inspector or the sub-inspector or the officer-in-charge is not present. The two men, in their full uniform, should take care of the complaint immediately. The intake and sending of wireless messages will not be done by the police clerk. A police officer should do the same,” Meena said.

Talking about the patrolling parties, Meena said it would be mandatory for the officer-in-charge to go on patrolling at least once in the morning and the evening. He also said there would be mandatory patrolling in front of different schools in the morning and the evening when classes give over for the safety of the children.

The Telegraph had reported on Monday about a serious accident just waiting to happen any time on the road in front of the St Xavier’s High School near Gandhi Maidan due to the absence of speed breakers and inadequate traffic police personnel.

“The patrolling near the schools in the mornings and the evenings will be done without fail. The police will have to be at the spots,” the officer said.

Meena said the police will be concentrating on cases of kidnapping for ransom, dacoity, loot and extortion.

“We have decided upon a 10-day chase task. Those criminals absconding after committing these crimes, will be nabbed in a course of 10 days. If not, their property will be attached with immediate effect,” Meena said.

With the Independence Day approaching, Meena said the police will start conducting raids and checks at different hotels and dharamsalas across the state capital to ensure the security of teh citizens.

“These will happen soon but without troubling the guests. Also, the police stations located in the border areas have been asked to stay alert and check the vehicles and their respective areas. Any person found suspicious should be detained and questioned,” Meena said.
