U Mumba is having a dream run in this season of Pro Kabaddi League and is in no mood to repeat their mistakes - defence is their focus this time around.
The team's dominance - six consecutive wins - reflects the passion U Mumba has brought this season. The team led by captain Anup Kumar are on the top of the ladder with 30 points this season that started on July 18.
U Mumba player Mohit Chillar, sharing his success mantra on Friday, said: "We have learnt from the past year's mistake. We are giving more importance on defence. Our players till now have focused on attack but defence is our strength." Going through this year's performance, the biggest challengers for U Mumba are Telugu Titans and Bengaluru Bulls. Titans and Bulls with five and four wins, respectively, are in second and third positions, respectively, in the points tally.
Chillar said: "Apart from focusing on defence, we have best raiders - captain Anup Kumar and Shabeer Bapu can break the defence of any team." U Mumba started its winning streak from the first match itself.
For the U Mumba team, Pro KPL has come as a boon for players. Not only is the game getting popular, it has helped players financially. With the prize money doubled from last season to Rs 2 crore, the Pro Kabaddi League would give a chance to many players. The winner will get Rs 1 crore while the runners-up will get Rs 50 lakh.
According to Pawan Kumar, another player of U Mumba, this season is different than the previous year, as the squad strength of each team has been increased from 14 to 25 to discover and hone new talents and prevent injuries to players.
"By increasing the squad strength, more players are getting opportunities and financial help," said Pawan.
