Patna, Feb. 10: Theatre lovers of the city were treated to some quality performances at the newly renovated Premchand Rangshala yesterday.

Artistes from National School of Drama in New Delhi came down to the state capital yesterday to take part in a two-day theatre festival. The light and sound effects at the refurbished Premchand Rangshala only added to their glamour.

Tanvir Akhtar, the acting president of Indian Peoples’ Theatre Association, Patna, said: “The two-day theatre fest has been organised to treat the theatre lovers of the state capital to some good plays.”

On the two plays being staged, he said: “The two plays that are being staged are Humara Saher Us Baras and Comrade Kumbhkaran. Both of them are certain to entertain everyone. The artistes who will perform here are very talented and have given great performances across the country.”

The play, which was staged on Thursday evening, was Humara Saher Us Baras, based on a novel by Geetanjali Shree. The play has been directed by Kirti Jain.

“This is my first show in Patna. Even though I am nervous, I am sure that the audience is going to love our performance,” she said.

On the play, Kirti said: “The drama deals with the communal issue during the Gujarat riots of 2002. It does not talk about the sequence of events, but it is more about changing relationships, feelings of Hindus and Muslims among each other. It deals more with the human psychology, how loving relationships change because of an atmosphere of tension.”

The fest ends today.
