
National Institute of Technology (NIT), Patna, has been given the task of allotting seats to students for admission to Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), NITs and Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) through Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB).
The same would be done once the IIT-JEE Advanced test results are declared.
The results of IIT-JEE Mains examination were declared on Monday. Successful students would now have to appear for the IIT-JEE Advanced test to be held on May 24. Based on the Mains results, around 1.5 lakh students would be eligible to appear for the IIT-JEE Advanced test and on the basis of the score in the test, students would be allotted seats for admission in IITs, NITs and IIITs.
The NIT-Patna administration has started preparations for CSAB.
MP Singh, the convener of CSAB at NIT-Patna, said: "For smooth conduct of CSAB, the NIT-Patna administration has formed various committees and these would be assigned different roles."
Singh added: "It is a big achievement for NIT-Patnato get the task of CSAB for the first time. It is an added challenge this year because there would be common counselling for admissions in technical institutes, IITs and NITs."
NIT-Patna would carry out work such as printing of brochures, designing online choice-filling forms and designing separate CSAB websites.
Students would fill their branch and institute choice on the NIT-Patna CSAB website. The institute would carry out verification of certificates and credentials, coordinate with agencies concerned for seat allotment against state/UT quota and do other work.
As the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducts the IIT Mains examination, the board would transfer 10 per cent of application fees collected for conducting JEE (Main) 2015 to NIT-Patna to meet the expenses of CSAB 2015.
The Council of the National Institutes of Technology (NITs) took the decision to give NIT-Patna the role of CSAB. CSAB was constituted with Dr Asok De, the director of NIT-Patna as chairman and directors of remaining 29 NITs, 12 IITs and other centrally funded technical institutions (CFTIs) as its members.
Apart from these, CSAB members also include a nominee of the CBSE, New Delhi, and a nominee of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi.
The admission in IITs would be conducted on the basis of IIT-JEE Advanced test, the results of which are likely to be declared on June 7.
Admission to students in IITs would be carried out on the basis of the merit list prepared by the JEE Advanced score and the merit score of only those students would be taken into account who figure in the top 20 percentile of respective Class XII board examination.
While the admission in NITs would be carried out on the basis of the merit list prepared after the JEE Mains results and Class XII board examination results.
For admission to NITs, 40 per cent weightage would be given to board results, while 60 per cent weightage would be given to the JEE Mains results.
