Patna, Aug. 1: First-year students of Magadh Mahila College were introduced to their teachers during the freshers’ induction programme today on the college premises.

“Students should respect their teachers. The role of teachers is not only to teach the students but also inculcate certain qualities in them. You (the students) should feel secure under the guidance of teachers and at the same time, you should value their presence,” Balram Tiwari, the head of department, Hindi, Patna University, said while addressing the students.

Tiwari expressed happiness over the increasing participation of women in different spheres of life. “A number of social barriers come in the way of women’s success but it is good to see that they are stepping out of the four walls and leaving a mark in almost every sphere of life. Today many husbands are known for having very successful wives,” Tiwari said.

Dolly Sinha, the principal of the college, had words of motivation for the newcomers. “Not only in academics, students should try to excel in extra-curricular activities and bring laurels to the college,” she said.

Venkat Raman, the head of department, chemistry, Magadh Mahila College, said: “It has been 40 years now that I have been associated with this college. I have taught a number of students who have excelled in different fields and have gone on to make the college proud.”

Lali Srivastava, a teacher in the history department, anchored the programme.
