Start-ups on wish list of fresh techies

Around 700 BTech and MTech passouts received their degrees at the annual convocation of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Patna on Sunday. Most had been placed in companies with hefty pay packages, while others planned to pursue higher education from premier institutions.

Patna: Around 700 BTech and MTech passouts received their degrees at the annual convocation of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Patna on Sunday. Most had been placed in companies with hefty pay packages, while others planned to pursue higher education from premier institutions.

But there were some daring to be different. They had plans to return to their state to launch start-ups so that they could generate employment opportunities for others.

Shwet Mani, an information technology graduate and branch topper, was among them. The Begusarai girl, who has been placed with Oracle, a software company, with a package of Rs 9 lakh, said: "First few years I will work at Oracle and after acquiring the experience, I will come back to my state to begin a start-up so that young talents in Bihar get employment opportunities."

Shwet Mani, who has done her matriculation and Intermediate studies from DAV Begusarai, claimed that people of Bihar have huge talents in technology but they are not getting opportunities.

A passout from the mechanical engineering branch, Ayush Pathak, who has been placed with Maruti Suzuki India said: "I will go for research at IITs and IISc as the Union government has recently announced that 2,000 researchers at IITs and IISc will get Rs 70,000 monthly. There is a lot of research going on in engineering branches across the globe. The Indian government too is promoting research in higher education." Pathak plans to launch his start-up in the automobile sector after his PhD.

BTech (computer science engineering) graduate and overall institute topper Dasari Yashwanth too plans to launch his start-up in the food and beverages sector. Yashwanth, placed with the United Health Group at a package of Rs 12 lakh per annum, has applied for admission into the MBA course from Harvard University, US. said: "After my MBA is over, I will return to India and start my own start-up."

Dasari, who hails from Andhra Pradesh, said: "Start-ups can help address employment problems of the country."
