Patna: Under the smart city project, smart water supply system would be provided to the residents, said divisional commissioner-cum-chairperson of the Patna Smart City Limited Anand Kishor. He made the announcement on Saturday after holding a meeting on the smart city project.
Under the smart water solution, state-of-the-art technology would be used to detect leakage in water supply and quality of water.
This facility would be provided to around 8000 residents of Patna. "Under the smart city project we have reached the second phase in which things have started taking shape. In area-based development, all government and private households would have smart water supply system. In this system, modern equipment would be installed at all places like from where the water originates, the channel from where water is distributed and where water reaches," Kishor said.
At every point, GPRS-based sensors would be installed and the households will have to install a smart meter. The meter will analyse data of four things which includes pH value, chlorine content, TDS (total dissolve solution) and turbidity of water.
All the sensors would be connected to the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition centre located near Miller High School and Command Centre which will come up near the police headquarters.
Kishor stressed that the data of all households would be registered at the centre and the person sitting at the centre will be able to check what kind of water the people of that household is consuming. "Water is an important component of smart city because many diseases occur owing to drinking unsafe water," Kishor said, adding that the meter will also detect leakage in the pipe.
Many field instruments would be installed like remote terminal units which will monitor and analyse the data of every household and then will give the feedback to the household about any fault.
As per the survey, there are 7,277 domestic buildings, 689 commercial and 332 institutional buildings. Around Rs 18 to Rs 20 crore would be spent in the smart water system. Kishor also said 4.05MW solar power would be generated for which 42 government buildings have been identified in which Rs 25 crore would be spent.
The officials of Spanish firm Eptisa Servicios de Ingeniería S.L., which is the management consultant of the smart city project, were also present in the meeting at the commissioner's office where Kishor instructed to speed up work.
The project is divided into two parts, one is the Area-Based Development and the other is the Pan City Project.
There is a perception about the scheme that once complete, Patna be a smart city. Only the 840 acres that falls under smart city where most of the schemes would be implemented are under the Area-Based Development.
The areas include Gandhi Maidan connecting Exhibition Road, Station Road, GPO, R-Block, Beer Chand Patel Marg, Income Tax roundabout, Mandiri Nala, Ashok Rajpath and then back to Gandhi Maidan.
In the Pan City project, there are a few things which would be implemented across Patna like intelligent traffic system and more but most of the things would come under Area-Based Development. The idea is that if one area becomes developed the other areas would automatically be developed.
So far, situation analysis report or survey of 42 different projects have been completed for the smart city.
