Patna Medical College and Hospital would start a skin bank to help those who have suffered burn injuries.
Patna Medical College and Hospital superintendent Amar Kant Jha Amar said: “We would start a skin bank to help those who are suffering from burn injuries or leucoderma. Any skin that is disease-free skin can be used for replacement.”
People above five years can donate skin and they would be given a medical card.
The card will be given so that if any person is in need of skin, they can procure it from the bank.
However, the people suffering from carcinoma, bacterial or fungal diseases would not be eligible for skin donation.
Generally, skin from the thighs would be taken for donation.
The skin can be preserved from six to nine months after its removal, Jha said.
“We would apply for the license from the state government and it would possibly take around six months to start the skin bank. We would also start liver and kidney transplantation,” Patna Medical College and Hospital superintendent said.
Recently Patna Medical College and Hospital under the banner of Indian Association of Dermatologists, Venereologists and Laprologists (IADVL) conducted a camp at Bakraur village near Bodhgaya where around 500 people got their health and skin checked.
