Reshu Nath, a girl from Bihar, has made her state proud.
Stupid Cupid, a critically acclaimed made-for-TV feature film directed by Reshu, an alumna of Notre Dame Academy, has garnered rave reviews. Renowned filmmaker Shoojit Sircar is the creative producer of the film. MTV would broadcast the feature.
The film defines the marginal difference between love and hate. Reshu said: "The film examines the idea that love and hate, both four-letter words, emerge from the same part of the human brain. And sometimes it can be hard to tell one from the other. Sometimes, it can take half a lifetime. In 90 minutes, the film packs in all the energy and excitement of a Bollywood blockbuster with colour, music, romance, action, comedy and visual effects."
Studip Cupid has been inspired by the world of comic books and graphic novels in its storytelling. "I brushed up by skills under supervision of Shoojit. My theme was rom-com (romantic comedy), which I wanted to depict in a creative way. Its style is heavy on animation and visual effects, with several portions of the story executed as motion-comic style animation. The film has graphics and visual effects of Hollywood standards," added Reshu.
The male protagonist of the film Aryan is a video-game designer, who builds a game called Urban Viking. This game is actually based on a real game of the same name, designed and released by Custom Technologies and was nominated for the Nasscom Gaming Forum's Indie Game of the Year award 2014.
The film has six songs and an intricately designed background score, spanning a wide range of musical styles - from semi-classical to hip-hop to rock and dubstep.
Reshu graduated with honours in English literature from Lady Shriram College, Delhi, and went on to earn an MA in filmmaking from AJK Mass Communication Research Centre, Jamia Millia Islamia.
She began her film career as assistant director on the National Award winning Dance Like a Man and as the writer of Brides Wanted. She has written and directed Indique - Big Ideas from Emerging India, a four-episode documentary series for US, broadcast on Public Broadcasting Service.
