Patna: Residents living adjacent Phulwarisharif block headquarters have been forced to take circuitous routes as the entire area is under knee-deep water.
The main entrance to the Phulwarisharif block office building connects Rashtriyaganj suburban area where people take the road towards Patna Airport and Phulwarisharif railway station.
The half-a-kilometre stretch, which has various government offices, remains heavily waterlogged even after the showers stopped on Sunday.
A government hoarding near Phulwarisharif primary health centre on the headquarter campus reads: "Careful: It is not necessary that water which appears clean would be drinkable and can be used for cooking."
The hoarding offers a solution that people can check the water quality of their water sources by getting the field-test kit from the panchayat office under the Chief Minister Swachh Bihar Swastha Bihar initiative.
Anil Kumar, 23, a college student who lives in Rashtriyaganj area, around 300m from the Phulwarisharif primary health centre, said: "Look at the difference between the Bihar government's claim and the reality. The nagar parishad do little on the ground level. The area is low but there is no serious attempt to resolve the waterlogging problem here."
An employee with the Phulwarisharif primary hospital said: "Monsoon brings nightmare for people working here. The authorities pay no heed even if government servants like us request them to sump water from here."
Raghuvansh Ray, 56, a resident of the area, said: "The road passing through the block office is the lifeline for people living in Rashtriyaganj or for those going towards the ESIC Hospital. But during monsoon we avoid this road and take the main road (NH-98) from Pethiya Bazaar to Phulwari Chauraha and then to Patna Airport Road where Rashtriyaganj comes midway. This takes a lot of time. Even areas where there are government offices and hospitals are not safe from waterlogging."
A Phulwarisharif nagar parishad official said: "The waterlogging problem at the Phulwari block office would be resolved soon."
The Phulwarisharif sub-divisional headquarter has offices of the Phulwari block development officer, deputy superintendent of police, a primary health centre and a community health centre, where a large number of visitors come everyday for residential certificates, caste certificates and patients and relatives for treatment in government health facilities.
