Super 30 founder Anand Kumar has claimed that wrong questions are being set in IIT-JEE examination over the past three years. He has even pointed out to three such questions set in the recently held IIT-JEE examination.

Kumar told The Telegraph: “Three questions in this year’s IIT-JEE examination were wrong this year, which led to confusion and wastage of time. The students became less confident while writing their papers. The problem was detected in no time after the examination but it was confirmed only after the answers were uploaded on Thursday.”

Kumar added that the material (answers), which was uploaded on the website, made it evident that all the students would get zero marks for the two questions — number 23 in chemistry and number 60 in the mathematics Paper 2. “Therefore, this would have happened even if the students had attempted the questions. One could not ignore the fact that if a student answers a question in a wrong manner, then negative marking is done. Despite this fact, the IIT-JEE authorities had mentioned yesterday that the students would get zero marks for the same. This implies that the questions were wrong, which the authorities, instead of admitting it, went for zero marking.

Kumar said: “Not only this, question number 6 of physics had two correct choices but the question said it had just one. I met human resource development minister Kapil Sibal recently and submitted a detailed proposal on IIT-JEE reforms.

Kumar added: “The same happened in 2010, when students who attempted the question in Hindi medium got 11 marks less than those in the English medium. IIT-JEE 2011 too witnessed wrong questions of 18 marks and later, average marking was followed.”

Just as Bengal JEE has started a system of uploading the answers after a week of the examination, Kumar demanded implementation of the same for IIT-JEE. Kumar said: “The question papers should be solved while setting them. Not only the answers but the process should also be uploaded on the website. The IIT-JEE should concentrate on a foolproof mechanism so that the mistakes are not repeated.”

Manish Ranjan, who has taken IIT-JEE this year, said: “My friends and I wasted a lot of time on the three questions. I had to waste 15 minutes just on these three questions (in two sittings). If this had not happened, I would have scored more marks.”

Ranjan added that the IIT-JEE should not do this because it wasted such a lot of time of the students.

Aakansha Sinha, who also took IIT-JEE this year, was of the same opinion. Aakansha said: “The physics portion had one question with two correct choices. Though I moved on without wasting much time on that, this should not have been done. The students have to face lots of problems because of faulty questions. It’s the students who have to suffer because every mark is important to them and in case they get low marks for no fault of theirs, it creates a big problem.”
