Patna: The wife of Muzaffarpur district child protection officer (CPO) Ravi Kumar Raushan, who was arrested by the special investigation team on the charge of sexual assault on some inmates of Muzaffarpur-based short stay home, came in the open to defend her husband and demanded a CBI probe.

Shibha Kumari Singh, wife of the CPO, alleged that the police were trying to shield a high-profile accused while the innocent people were sent to jail in the case. "I have evidence to corroborate that big fish were being protected by the police," she told reporters in Muzaffarpur on Wednesday.

Shibha said her husband used to visit the short stay home on Sahu Road of the town as part of inspection. "He is being falsely implicated in the case by some people for their vested interest," she alleged, adding that a number of officials visited the shelter home with Raushan from time to time.

"But none of the victims ever complained to the officials who paid a visit to the shelter home earlier. The matter came to the fore when Tata Institute of Social Studies (TISS) did a social audit of the shelter home. The report, however, remained under carpet for almost one-and a-half-months," she alleged.

She said non-governmental organisation Seva Sankalp Evam Vikas Samiti didn't install CCTV at the shelter home despite instruction from the DCWO and assistant director Rosy Rani.

She said only premier investigating agencies such as the CBI would be able to do justice with the family. "I request chief minister Nitish Kumar to order a probe into the affairs of the shelter home so that the guilty could be punished," added.
