Patna, Feb. 12: Parents worried about the formative training of their tiny tots can breathe easy.

Ninad, an organisation dedicated to classical music and dance, would start a one-of-its-kind playschool in the capital from April 1 that would impart lessons only through music.

Neelam Choudhary, the secretary of Ninad, said the school would be named Ninad Playschool.

“The school would be different from other playschools, as it would teach children the basics of mathematics, English and painting through music. Children between the age group of three and four would be taught through the help of music. The school would run separate classes for three- and four-year-old children,” Choudhary said.

In the three-hour schedule from 9am to 12noon, children would get to learn the basics of mathematics like counting, English alphabets and other things. The school would function from the main building of Ninad, located on Boring Road. “Playschools often use music as a medium for teaching. But they don’t use music in teaching everything. Our school would be different, as they would learn everything through music. Students would not only get to learn the basics of various subjects, they would also be made acquainted with the basics of music. The school would actually serve a twin purpose,” added Choudhary.

“Researches have proved that music can be very helpful in the growth of a child. Many experiments are being carried out abroad, which are based on the usefulness of music in people’s lives. It has also been found that children associated with music are very good in mathematics and other technical subjects. This is because their mental growth is comparatively better than children who are not associated with music. Our aim would be to ensure overall development of a child,” said Choudhary.

Asked how instructors would teach lessons in the school, she said: “We will teach children various taals, the rhythmic cycle of beats. A student of classical vocal music is well acquainted with counting of beats of various taals. The students usually count the beats on their fingers. By learning taals, children will master the basic of mathematical calculation — the counting.”

Choudhary added: “The students learn English alphabets through musical compositions, which will have mention of the alphabets in it. There are CDs available in market which try to teach children alphabets through songs.”
