Motivation for healthy mind, body & soul

St Xavier's College of Management and Technology, Digha Ghat, held the graduation ceremony for its 2015-18 undergraduate batch on May 5. Gracing the occasion was Sharad Vivek Sagar, founder and CEO of Dexterity Global, the international organisation providing educational support and leadership training to middle and high school students all over the world.

Principal Father T. Nishaant, S.J. started off the programme lighting the traditional lamp.

Sagar wished the students for their future and reminded them that being alumni of St Xavier's College is in itself a challenge to live up to.

He exhorted the students to muster their courage to work towards a better society and a better nation.

Ashwin James, president of the students' cabinet, administered the students' pledge to the graduates. "The college's focus is not only on academic improvement of students but their overall development. The students were always encouraged by the college administration to actively participate in extra-curricular activities."

BBA student Archit Aman, bachelor of business economics Sanju Kumari and mass communication student Deedar Kumar also spoke on their experience.

Yoga day

The Central University of South Bihar on May 4 also created awareness about yoga as part of the International Day of Yoga to be celebrated on June 21 in Gaya.

The day started with a yoga session conducted by yogaguru Vijay Prakash Mishra from Varanasi. Registrar Gayathri Vishwanath Patil, dean students' welfare Sanat Kumar Sharma, proctor Kaushal Kishore, faculty members, staff and students attended the event.

Mishra showed yoga postures ( asanas) to the participants in a hour-long session.

Postgraduate student Kumar Ankit said: "Yoga is the exercise that not only keeps the body fit but also the mind. The session was important for students as yogaguru informed us about the various exercise we should practise daily."

Swachh drive

A five-day cleanliness drive organised at Central University of South Bihar's Gaya campus under the Swachh Bharat Mission ended on May 2. Faculty members, staff and students actively participated in the programme.

Priya Ranjan, assistant professor of sociology and co-ordinator, said many rangoli, poster, and essay-writing competitions, planting drives and cleanliness work in and around the campus was undertaken. Tulsi, bela, sesham saplings were planted on the premises.

Priya said there is an inter-relation and dependency between health and hygiene. "We will feel healthier if the environment remains neat and clean, so we need to create awareness among the masses about this. The responsibility is ours to contribute to cleanliness in the environment, he added.

Youth fest

AN College students participated in the three-day youth festival, Indradhanush 2018. Governor Satya Pal Malik inaugurated it on May 3, followed by various events such as debate, classical solo dance, group dance, and essay competitions.

Shweta Shree and Amit Kumar Singh received the winners' trophy in the classical solo dance contest while Arti Kumari bagged the trophy for folk solo dance.

In vocals, Mukul Kumar won the solo folk song round.
