Patna, June 16: Spurned lovers and drugged women have started giving sleepless nights to the city police.

The cops, these days, are dealing with a number of cases in which women, who, after being jilted in love are fleeing their homes. The latest incident surfaced when Suman (name changed), a young girl residing in Kadamkuan area, decided to leave her house after her boyfriend allegedly ditched her.

Daughter of a lawyer, Suman, waited for her family members to fall asleep last night. Thereafter, she locked up everyone inside the house and headed for Patna Junction, hoping to flee once and for all.

“The girl was strolling along the railway station when, to her good luck, she was spotted by a family which was on its way to their SK Puri residence. The girl looked decent and the family questioned her. When she started giving inconsistent replies to their queries, the family became suspicious. The family apprised me of the same around 1.40am,” Patna City superintendent of police Shivdeep Lande told The Telegraph.

After receiving the information, the officer asked the family to bring the girl to SK Puri police station. This morning, Suman’s family was thunderstruck seeing their daughter missing. They went and met a high-profile politician in the state.

“The family has three daughters of whom Suman is the second. The police started receiving calls that the family had complained that all three girls had disappeared. The police then clarified things before summoning the family members to the police station to hand her over,” Lande said.

On June 13 evening, passersby spotted a girl wandering aimlessly in Raja Pul area. The girl was in an inebriated state after being drugged.

“That girl was also lucky. There were many people following her but one among them called up the police. The Gandhi Maidan police were asked to rush to the spot but by then, the girl had moved to the Mainpura area of Patliputra. She was seated on a rickshaw accompanied by three unknown men. The man who tipped off the police was keeping a close watch and again called up the police about this,” Lande added.

The Patliputra mobile unit was alerted but the girl had moved to the Digha area. The police then informed the Digha police mobile unit. “At last, all the three police units reached for the girl and she was recovered,” the officer said.

“It is not just about catching criminals. These incidents have given the police sleepless nights. Being women, they are more susceptible to crime. The police always need to act fast and be precise if things need to be contained,” another police officer said.
